Frequently Asked Questions

I love to hear from harpists, teachers and students!
But to save you time, here are some of the questions I am often asked:

“May I record your music?”

For all music published by Afghan Press, with the exception of “How Great Thou Art” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness”:

If you are producing the recording for a profit (for example, selling CDs or digital downloads), please contact me for copyright information. I have a simple agreement and a small fee for mechanical rights.

If you are not going to profit from the music, (for example, you are performing in a church concert and it will be shared online) then please use it in your recordings with my gratitude and give the appropriate credits: composer name(s), the title of the piece and the collection it is from — whenever possible.

If you are going to play it in a youtube video, and your channel is monetized, please give credit for the music in the video and on your channel to encourage other harpists to buy my music. If you become outrageously wealthy doing this, send me presents.

For all music published by Alry Publications, as well as “How Great Thou Art” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness”:

Sadly, I don’t own the copyright to work published by Alry, so I can’t give any permissions. The two hymns are still under copyright license, so you would need to contact the copyright owner for permission.

“May I perform your work in concert / gig (etc) for pay?”

If I own the copyright (see the question above), then YES and I hope you get fabulously rich and send me presents. If there is a printed program please give appropriate credits.

“In What order should I play your music?”

Beyond the basic classifications I have listed in the page titles, it’s difficult to say, because each book has some easier pieces and some more difficult pieces. I would recommend getting two or three books at a time, starting with the simplest pieces in each book, and working your way through.

The songs are NOT placed in order of difficulty as a rule, but in the order I imagined it would be nice to perform them. Generally I do try to put the most difficult toward the end, but that is not always the case.

Here’s my best guess:

Enchanted Sea, Primo Part
