 My Gallery

For lever or pedal harp,
all pieces are two pages.
Most are level 3, suited for 34 strings, larger harps may add lower octaves where appropriate.

I was chatting online with an adult harp student who is also a visual artist, and it caused me to reflect on how often I’m inspired by the work of artists in many mediums.

When I compose I often start with an emotion, or picture, or story in my mind. Using the arts and crafts of others resulted in a wide ranging collection of feelings and stories: playful, dynamic, somber, wistful, lovely. I do not have a gallery, and none of the art works named in this book are famous. Some are simply home made craft projects! Don’t we all have a collection of treasures that would never be seen in a magazine, but make us happy because they remind us of people we love?

All but one piece is presented in two keys, so harps of varying tunings can play in flats or sharps as suits them best.

Dying Tree (key of Gm) (key of Am) Encourages sensitive performance. See video for extended technique suggestion.

Morning River (key of Bb) (key of C) Beautiful piece, useful for relaxing therapy. One of my favorites.

Blackberry Winter (key of Gm)(key of Am) A Celtic inspired with lilting rhythm.

Garden Psalm (key of F) (key of G) Inspired by renaissance choral music, there are meter changes. “With serenity”.

Crazy Quilt (key of Bb) (key of C) Jaunty syncopation, playful melody. A good interval study.

Whoo Cat (key of Gm) (key of Am) A bit jazzy, fun to play.

Skyscraper (key of Gm) (key of Am) This is about an old growth fir tree reaching into the sunset sky. Tender melody.

Alone on the Range (key of G) Challenging chords with an old west feel. Not fast, this is a sentimental piece.

FIRE! (key of Gm & Am) Sounds much more difficult than it is. A flashy piece, fun to play.
